Pena Palace

National Palace of Pena, Sintra, Portugal – 2025. The National Palace of Pena is an eclectic mix of 19th-century Romanticism, blending Neo-Gothic, Neo-Manueline, Neo-Islamic (Moorish), and Neo-Renaissance styles, creating a fairytale appearance with bold colors, turrets, and ornate details built upon a former monastery. Features include the Arches Yard with Moorish influences, the Clock Tower, the Queen's Terrace, and restored elements of the old monastery. The palace, in its current form, was built in the nineteenth century by King Fernando II. The park surrounding the palace is over 200 hectares and is a romantic forest designed with winding paths, exotic trees from around the world, and hidden romantic structures creating a lush, mystical landscape with lakes, waterfalls, grottos, and viewpoints.
