Tiles and Street Art

Portugal – 2025. Azulejo tiles decorate many of the buildings, monuments and churches in the older sections of Lisbon. The blue and white azulejo tiles are a Portuguese classic and often tell a story or chronicle major cultural aspects of Portuguese history. The style has been heavily influenced by Islamic and Italian cultures. While many tiles are a classic blue and white, a wide variety of colors and styles exist. Many of Lisbon’s older buildings are adorned with these tiles and more modern artists have added everything from murals to graffiti to some of the buildings.
