Belgrade Fortress

Belgrade Fortress, Belgrade, Serbia - 2022 Danube River cruise. The Avalon Passion docked near the mouth of the Sava River where it flows into the Danube River. Above the port was the Belgrade Fortress, the most significant landmark in Belgrade and a testament to the city’s strategic importance to the Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman, Serbian and Austrian empires. The Belgrade Fortress is located on top of high ridge overlooking the City of Belgrade. The fortress is surrounded on three sides by the Danube and Sava Rivers. The fortress has been built, destroyed and rebuilt many times between the 2nd and 18th century and the current structure is a mixture of many of these rebuilds. It is part of Belgrade’s Kalemegdan Park.
