Linz Austria - 2022 Danube River cruise. Linz is the capital of Upper Austria and with a population of 200,000, is Austria’s third largest city. The Old Town part of Linz has a large public square surrounded by historically and architecturally interesting buildings, churches and houses. The economic importance of Linz was founded over centuries of trade dating as far back as the Roman Empire when it was a local government city and provincial capital. It gained further importance as an industrial and cultural centre under the Germans during WW2 because Adolf Hitler spent most of his youth in the Linz area and considered it his home town and so supported it’s prominence as an industrial and cultural centre.
