Baba Vida Fortress, Vidin, Bulgaria - 2022 Danube River cruise. Baba Vida is a medieval castle on the banks of the Danube River in the city of Vidin. It is the only entirely preserved medieval castle in Bulgaria. The construction of the current castle began in the 10th century at the site of the ancient town and Roman fortress of Bononia. The site contains remains from the Roman, Byzantine, early Bulgarian, late Bulgarian and Ottoman age. The fortress is surrounded by a moat, two concentric curtain walls and numerous towers.
