Northern Thailand – 2003 We spent Christmas 2003 in Chiang Mai visiting friends who showed us lots northern Thailand. Chiang Mai photos In Chiang Mai we visited some hot springs, the Maesa Elephant Camp and Muang On Caves.
We spent several days driving through northern Thailand including the Tha Ton district, Doi Mae Salong, and Wawi Valley. Along the way we visited a Karen Village and a tea plantation. Photos of northern Thailand We then drove to Mae Hong Son in the northwest region of Thailand. The highway is between Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son is a spectacular drive through the mountains. There were lots of small farming communities (mostly rice) and lots of jungle. We visited the Mok Fa Water Falls and The Lod Caves which are north of Mae Hong Son. Photos of Northwest Thailand and Lod Caves. While in the area of Mae Hong Son drove up into the hills close to the Myanmar boarder to visit the Padaung tribal village (Longnecks).
