MEXICO - 2013

In early 2013 I was in Mexico for a Habitat for Humanity Global Village build in Las Varas which is a small town located in the state of Nayarit, about 100km north of Puerto Vallarta. These photos are of Las Varas, the Habitat houses I was working on and some of the surrounding area and towns.

During the build we stayed in Chacala which is a small beach-town on a bay on the Pacific coast of Mexico in the State of Nayarit. It is about 10 kilometers from Las Varas. While in Chacala we stayed at the Hotel Las Brisas which is small (11 rooms) and on the “rustic” side, but it is family owned and operated and the service was always very good as was the food at their restaurant. Following the Global Village build a few of us went Rincon de Guayabitos, Jaltemba Bay,Nayarit. Guayabitos is a beach resort town between Chacala and Puerto Vallarta. We stayed at Estancia San Carlos which was an OK hotel. There is lots of shopping and a few very good restaurants in Guayabitos and the prices are a lot less than Puerto Vallarta.

After Guayabitos I spent a couple of nights in Puerto Vallarta. I stayed at Hacienda Alemana which was a very nice hotel in the old (romantic area) area of Puerto Vallarta, close to the Malecón and lots of good restaurants and shopping. Photos of Guayabitos and Puerto Vallarta

On a weekend during the Habitat Global Village Build the team visited an indigenous Wixárika Huichol village at Zapote Picachos located in the municipality of Tepic in the northern boundary with the municipality of El Nayar. The village is accessible by boat and is on the reservoir of the Aguamilpa Dam on the Rio Grande de Santiago. Click on VILLAGE to view the photos of our visit to Zapote Picachos.
