Thumbnails - Ephesus

Ephesus was an ancient Greek city near the present day Selšuk, Turkey. It was one of the twelve cities of the Ionian League during the Classical Greek era and in the Roman period it was the second largest city in the Roman Empire with a population of more than 250,000. Ephesus contains the largest collection of Roman ruins in the eastern Mediterranean and only an estimated 15% has been excavated. Both St. John and St. Mary (The Virgin Mary) lived and died in the Ephesus area and remains of Churches and other monuments to them can be found in the surrounding hills.
